A Commitment To Our Planet
Concord Friends Meetinghouse Reflects Testimonies of Simplicity and Stewardship
Quakers have long been activists for the preservation of our environment. Our testimonies of simplicity and stewardship bid us to conserve energy and use minimal resources. Within our own homes we value energy conservation, recycling and all means to lower our carbon footprints.
The Meetinghouse we built in 2010 reflects those values. We built with earth friendly materials, used super insulation, and installed a highly efficient wood pellet boiler, gaining an Energy Star Award. Importantly, we sited the structure with a southern orientation and gave it a properly pitched roof for solar panels. In 2018 we covered our roof with solar panels. Because we only needed a quarter of them for our building, we created a group net meter project, producing enough power for another 3 homes. If you are interested in this model solar project, please contact info [at] concordfriendsmeeting [dot] org. We would love to share how we managed to build this with very little upfront cost.
