Service

Quakers believe that faith without action is incomplete.  Quakers traditionally have been very involved in social issues (ending slavery, equal rights for women, prison reform, fair treatment of Native Americans, disaster and war relief efforts, homelessness, refugee concerns).

Sponsorship

Children in the Meeting are introduced (in age appropriate ways) to concerns and often feel moved to act. The Meeting sponsors a student and their family through the Friends of Kenya Rising organization (formerly Kakamega Care Centre). The children are involved in fundraising for our sponsees and writing letters to them.

We previously sponsored a young Kenyan student named Christine, starting from the 2nd grade and continuing through the 9th grade. Near the end of 2022, Kenya Rising let us know that Christine and her family no longer need help from this program. They asked us to renew our commitment to helping families rise out of poverty. As a result, the meeting is now sponsoring the Asonga family. Read more about them!

About Christine

Here is an early letter we received from Christine. Read other letters exchanged between Christine and the Meeting. See photos of Christine and her family as things stood at the end of her sponsorship.

Christmas Eve Caroling at a local nursing home followed by a short programmed worship in which children play a lead role.
