Seeking sponsorship for sanctuary training
Hi friends, I believe each of you asked for more information with regard to sponsoring the Chris Crass workshop on April 8: Creating Sanctuary with Anti-Racism and Collective Liberation at the Heart. Please see below and let me know if you need additional information at this time. Peace, and many thanks for your assistance. Maggie Fogarty, Co-Director of the NH Program American Friends Service Committee 4 Park Street, #304 Concord, NH 03301 (603)224-2407 www.afsc.org/newhampshire ________________________________ At our NH Immigrant Solidarity Network meetings, and at our local sanctuary coalitions as well, we are naming the importance of deepening our understanding of the dynamics of racism and oppression and how these realities have created the need for sanctuary. We also recognize the need to create sanctuary with a commitment to a framework for anti-racism and liberation. We have an opportunity to bring Chris Crass to NH for a 4-hour workshop entitled "Creating Sanctuary with Anti-Racism and Collective Liberation at the Heart." See description below. With the other "Level One" sanctuary congregations, we have agreed to hold this workshop on Sunday, April 8, 2 pm to 6 pm at the Brookside UCC in Manchester (location to be confirmed). I am writing you to ask if your organization would be able to provide some financial support as a co-sponsor for this event. Peace, Maggie Fogarty, Co-Director of the NH Program American Friends Service Committee 4 Park Street, #304 Concord, NH 03301 (603)224-2407 www.afsc.org/newhampshire ___________________ Sanctuary with Anti-Racism and Collective Liberation at the Heart: Sunday, April 8, 2 pm to 6 pm at Brookside UCC, Manchester (location to be confirmed) Join us for an interactive workshop on how we are building up the Sanctuary movement in New Hampshire with values of anti-racism, racial justice and liberation for all of us at the heart of our work. Longtime anti-racist educator and author Chris Crass will be leading this workshop with the goal of helping our congregations and communities of faith come together, share and reflect on our work, deepen our understanding of white supremacy and how we can challenge racism and work for racial justice in the Sanctuary movement here in New Hampshire. The workshop will help us develop a stronger culture of solidarity and support us to be more effective in our efforts to work for racial justice in these times of racism on the rise. If you are already a leader or active supporter in your congregation for Sanctuary or if you are newer and want to get more involved, this workshop is for you. Chris Crass is a social justice educator who writes and speaks widely on courage for racial justice, feminism for men, lessons from past movements, and creating healthy culture and leadership for progressive activism. He works with community groups, schools and faith communities to develop leadership and momentum for social justice action. He was a founder of the anti-racist movement building center, the Catalyst Project, helped launch the national white anti-racist network, SURJ (Showing Up For Racial Justice). Rooted in his Unitarian Universalist faith, he works with congregations, seminaries, and religious activists to build the Spiritual Left. He is also the author of Towards Collective Liberation: anti-racist organizing, feminist praxis, and movement building strategy and Towards the “Other America”: Anti-Racist Resources for White People Taking Action for Black Lives Matter. You can learn more about his work at www.chriscrass.org.
