Saturday Dec. 2, at 7 pm.

Concord Friends Meetinghouse, 11 Oxbow pond Rd. Canterbury, NH

Award-winning multi-instrumentalist,

singer/songwriter and storyteller

Steve Schuch has delighted audiences across the US and Europe. Fusing Celtic/Folk roots with a storyteller’s heart and humor, his artistry touches people on many levels.  Irrepressible singing, riveting violin and whales, tales of mud season and black flies, are all part of his wide-ranging repertoire.

Credits include a Grammy nomination, PBS soundtracks, and the Parents’ Choice Gold Award for his Trees of Life recording. Steve’s musical story, A Symphony of Whales, received five national book awards and was featured on NPR’s “Performance Today.” Beyond his solo work, he has performed and recorded with Windham Hill guitarist and producer Will Ackerman, folk legend Pete Seeger, and his own Celtic ensemble, The Night Heron Consort.      Steve is passionate about immigration justice. This concert is a benefit for the Asylum Seekers Support Fund of Concord Friends Meeting. Half of the ticket price and any other donations will directly support asylum seekers' legal expenses.

4th Sunday Program - November 26th

Our 4th Sunday program following potluck will be a sharing around a few queries that we expect will resonate with most everyone who attends to meeting.  Why did I start attending Meeting in the first place?  What do I hope to gain from attending Meeting? Why is attending Meeting important to me?

Our sharing may provide very useful insights into each other's experience and a good start toward preparing our "State of Society Report" in early 2024.  We thought it would be helpful to offer these queries now so that Friends will be able to  take some time to reflect on them before our time together on November 26th.

Health Update

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving with loved ones. With luck and care, we will not see a major resurgence of the pandemic from a new variant but lots of travel does raise the risks. Nationwide, hospital admissions are up 8.6% and deaths from COVID are up 9.1%, after almost 2 months of slowly declining rates. More data will not be available until after this coming Sunday.

After more exposure to people than usual, it is a good idea to do some testing for infection without symptoms, timing varying on what possibility exists that one might infect another group of people. Usually the first test would be from 3 to 5 days after possible exposure and at least one repeat 48 hours later (a third test another 48 hours later adds more insurance). The federal government is making more free tests available through the mail (https://www.covid.gov/tests. Click or tap to follow the link.">https://www.covid.gov/tests). Ask friends to share their surplus tests if you need them before your order arrives.

A useful perspective from experts put together by the NY Times:

This worldwide immunity means that a smaller fraction of people will die than did at the start of the pandemic. Still, Omicron’s toll remains heavy. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention https://www.cdc.gov/flu/spotlights/2023-2024/22-23-summary-technical-rep.... Click or tap to follow the link.">found that between October 2022 and September 2023, more than 80,000 people died of Covid, more than eight times as many as those who died of influenza.

As Omicron continues to evolve, epidemiologists still see a benefit to vaccinations. Justin Lessler, a researcher at the University of North Carolina, and his colleagues recently ran a projection of future Covid infections and https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.10.26.23297581v1. Click or tap to follow the link.">concluded that annual vaccination campaigns could save up to 49,000 lives a year.

Snow Season

We have gotten into the season when winter boots can track in lots of

wetness and grit.  Even with a good carpet inside the front door the

wear and tear on the floors takes its toll. If Friends will keep a pair

of slippers or indoor shoes on the shoe racks in the lobby closet, the

damage and inconvenience is greatly diminished.
It's helpful if they are

labeled with your name.
