Documents to Review before Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business

Dear Friends,

We have yet to get Chris's new computer set up with Quickbooks on it.

Here are the reports.  Note that they are up through Wednesday, September 6th since there was a lot of money that we threw out the door this week.

AFSC NH 2023 Celebration

SAVE THE DATE!

Concord Friends will be hosting one of three "fun"draisers for AFSC-NH on Oct. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. Expect to be invited to participate by contributing an hors d'oeuvre, or a talent in performance, or a hand with clean-up later this Fall. We'll provide info about signing up later. But most of all, plan to come! If you can't make it for our own event, there are two other Meetings hosting similar events so there's sure to be one you can attend. The word from AFSC-NH:

Friends, you are invited to join AFSC NH at https://fb.me/e/2UmNIef7H. Click or tap to follow the link.">Lift Our Hearts & Raise Our Spirits, three unique in-person events for our annual Fall fundraiser to support our work to help build a more just and loving community.  These afternoon gatherings will be opportunities to connect and inspire each other with games, song, spoken word, art and delicious food.  All are welcome!

  • October 14 - 1pm-4pm:  Concord Friends Meeting - Join us for music & spoken word!
  • October 28 - 1pm-4pm:  Dover Friends Meeting - Join us for arts, crafts & games!
  • November 4 - 1pm-4pm:  Hanover Friends Meeting - Join us to hear from AFSC's General Secretary Joyce Ajlouny and Economic Justice Director, Rick Wilson!

All are welcome to join us! The suggested donation is $20 to $50 to support the work of AFSC-NH. Please pay as led; we do not want money to be an obstacle to your joining the celebrations. Contact afscnh [at] afsc [dot] org with any questions or comments.

Geothermal Update

Work has continued this week and is nearly complete. Both companies we've dealt with have been highly professional. Other good news is that we have sold the pellets, the boiler and the pellet bin.

Though our fundraising committee has worked mostly on grants submission so far, they will be launching the capital campaign soon. It's been gratifying to receive some unsolicited donations already. They hope friends will begin to think about making a gift to help support the project.

Recycling Plastic Bags — reduce, reuse, reimagine, repair, recycle

Concord Friends Meeting has agreed to begin collecting plastic bags in support of the effort described below to reduce the amount of plastic sent to the landfill and turn it into benches that will be placed on community trails.  A box to collect the plastic will be located in the mechanical room of the Meeting-house.  The plastic does not have to be marked as recyclable; any clean, flexible plastic bag-like material can be collected.  I will have the box in place by this coming First Day so you can start collecting now.  I will be responsible for emptying the box and delivering the plastic.  If you have any questions, contact Sheryl Ingraham at 410-972-1222.  Thanks in advance for your support!

The Loudon Trails Committee has teamed up with the Loudon Lions Club to make a difference… together we are helping to reduce the amount of plastic bags that enter our landfill AND turning it into benches for our Community Trails!

For every 500 pounds of clean, dry, food-waste-free plastic we collect in a 6 month period, we are eligible to receive a beautiful Nex-Trex Bench.

Thank you for your support!

39th Annual Concord, NH CROP Hunger Walk

Saturday, October 14

CROP Walk is an annual fundraiser held nationally to alleviate the challenges of disease, disaster, and displacement that leave people hungry locally and internationally.  The prolonged war in Ukraine and other disasters are causing a global food crisis.  Millions are on the brink of famine.  Locally, congregations form teams and members make donations to support those teams.  Over the years, CFM has been a strong contributor to this effort.

This year's CROP Walk is planned as a traditional in-person walk starting from the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints (LDS) on Clinton St. in Concord.  Registration will begin at 12:00 with a kick-off rally at 12:30 and the walk beginning at 1:00.  There will be refreshments at the church afterward.

Emily Stuart

I experience my spiritual journey as a continuous dance throughout the land.  I see it in images of hard, painful treks over mountains, into valleys of forgiveness, of deep-sea dives into the depths of unknowing, through deserts of harsh, hot anger, into jungles thick with misunderstanding, and to landscapes of breathtaking clarity.
