Volunteers Needed for Pellet Pickups

Dear Friends,

We are in the process of selling our pellets since we no longer will be using them due to the install of the new heating system.  Our Meeting needs a few people who we could call on to meet buyers at the Meetinghouse, to accept their payment, and to open the Meetinghouse to oversee their taking out the bags without damage to the Meetinghouse.  In addition, if you know someone who uses pellets you can let them know that we are selling them at a reduced price.

Thank you!

The North Sandwich Friends (Quaker) Meeting in partnership with Old Friends Genealogy invites the community of Sandwich and any other interested individuals to gather at 4:00 pm on Saturday, August 12 at the Benz Center located at 18 Heard Road in Center Sandwich.  A Power Point presentation will be used to describe highlights of the recently completed "Hands on History" community project spearheaded and organized by the North Sandwich Friends Meeting.  This project featured substantial work related to the Religious Society of Friends (1776) burial ground at the base of Wentworth Hill in Center Sandwich including work inside the “stonewalls" by Sandwich Central Elementary students and volunteers as well as education and research outside the walls of the burial ground.

Old Friends Genealogy (Mike and Kate Lancor of Moultonborough) collected information from the inscriptions on gravestones in the burial ground and reviewed previously recorded maps and cemetery logs before  proceeding with extensive genealogy research for those known to be buried in the burial ground. Ancestry.com was used as a platform to develop family trees for those buried there.  Profile pages were created for each individual buried identifying other relatives (e.g. mother, father, spouse, siblings, children) also buried in the same burial ground.  The Power Point presentation will include sharing examples of the profiles developed through genealogy research for several families and individuals "at rest” in this Quaker Cemetery.

Special appreciation to the all community volunteers, The North Sandwich Friends (Quaker) Meeting, The Sandwich Historical Society, Bollinger Associates (Chip Bollinger), Sandwich Central School administration, teachers and students, and Old Friends Genealogy for participating.  Thanks also to the Quimby Trust for partially funding this project.  Anyone interested in more information about this presentation on Saturday, August 12 can call Mike Lancor (603-204-8409) or Susan Wiley (603-677-2634 ).  Kate & Mike Lancor, oldfriendsgenealogy [at] gmail [dot] com

From the Writings of Margaret (Maggie) Edmondson, 2008

On the Sunday between my mother’s death and her funeral I attended meeting for worship in Chichester.  It was one of those blessed meetings that seemed designed specifically to speak to my condition.  A Friend had been charged with the task of choosing an advice to read at the beginning of worship.  One particular phrase from it struck me forcefully: “Attend to what love requires of you.” It was a phrase that echoed and re-echoed in my mind over the days and weeks that followed.  It was something to hold onto, something simple to bring me back to Center when things got overwhelming or difficult.

I wrote myself a note and set it where I would be sure to see it on the morning of my mother’s funeral.  “Attend to what love requires of you” and I breathed it in and out as I waited to begin the service, aware of the ocean of love and prayer support which was holding me up and reaching into me with its stilling, calming influence.  I turned it into a query to ask myself each day and in each situation: “What does Love require of me today?” “What does Love require of me right now?”

Edmondson has served as a pastor in Winthrop, Maine since September 1996.  British by birth, she moved to the USA following her marriage in 1977 to her husband Ron.  She has led worship, given talks, workshops, and retreats in the wider Friends world as well as in interfaith settings.  She has also served as a representative of New England Friends to several national and international gatherings of Quakers.  She has served the Winthrop Area Ministerial Association in various capacities and is also a member of the Capital Area Multifaith Association.
