Meeting for Business this Sunday
Here are some advance documents for this Sunday: YRE, Nominating. Statement of Operations, Balance Sheet were sent as attachments to the newsletter email.
News from Faith Sillars
Faith has not been at Meeting for several weeks. Her daughter, Carin, learned that she had a brain tumor, and was informed that there may be neurological damage whether there was an operation or not. That news was hard for Faith and Carin and the rest of Faith's family. After waiting awhile, a surgeon was found. She suspected that it was a fossilized tumor. November 4th surgery proved that was true!!
Faith sent the following email to a CFM friend:
I just saw Carin, for the first time since her surgery- She is doing remarkably well! She is still in the ICU, but will go to a regular ward soon. She is still herself! There was a real question of what damage would have been done to her brain, by the tumor, but so far, so good! Her brain will need to re-expand into the place that is now emptied of tumor. Her guy, Ed, will take care of her when she goes home, this week, then I will take over next Sunday. I have to continue to socially distance, so I won't bring germs, while she is fragile. Thanks to all who are holding us up!!
Blessings, Faith
Help Needed in Children’s Program
Although we have 4 people in the teaching rotation, the children’s program needs another person each week to provide childcare for younger –than- Kindergarten children. This can be outside (weather permitting) or inside in the children’s play room. We have not had many people signing up for this, and had to snag someone who hasn’t yet gone into Meeting a couple times.
You must have had a background check (done by NEYM) before volunteering. If you are a pre-approved childcare helper, please check your email for a link to where to sign up online. If you would like to become a helper, please email religiousEduation [at] ConcordFriendsMeeting [dot] org to initiate that process.
If you are not attending Meeting in person, you can also help us fulfill our child safety policy by being a remote observer into our classrooms. We will be setting up a cell phone connected to a YRE Breakout Room in each physical classroom. A Zoom attender could sign up to randomly enter our classrooms to monitor (and then return to Worship Zoom room). If you would like to sign up for this, please do so at the Google doc in the Remote Observer column: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XAX0pPv1wkzbGu7qR5-CsoAbALnIS_nh_w8hJdP2QWM/edit
Fall Leaf Clean-up & Yard Work, Nov 20
This annual ritual is upon us. Let's hope for good weather. Please wear appropriate clothing, and bring work gloves and rakes. Snacks to share are welcomed.
Facing Our History
Paula Palmer (Friends Peace Teams), Gail Melix (Sandwich, MA, Friends Meeting), and Andrew Grant (Mt. Toby, MA, Friends Meeting) will present findings of Paula’s research into Quaker support for Indigenous boarding schools. The presentation will include readings directly from the Quaker teachers themselves and the Native students and other Native people who wrote about their experiences in these schools, followed by an opportunity to explore these queries in facilitated small groups: What does the Quaker history of running Indigenous boarding schools and the ongoing impact on Native communities mean for Friends today? How can Friends contribute toward healing?
