News of Friends
Sam Barnard has just graduated from high school and will be attending Middlebury College next year after farm handing this summer into the fall. He says "Hi" to all and has taken this time of passage to declare his commitment to conscientiously object to military service. Best wishes to you Sam! Find his letter to us here.
Jesse Heath-Vincent is a new dad. He and his wife, Marisol, now living in Manchester, welcomed a daughter, Zöe, to the world last Friday evening. Ruth and Greg are over the moon with delight.
Heidi will be driving to NEYM Sessions, leaving mid-morning on Saturday and returning Thursday morning. I have room for 3 passengers with oodles of room for luggage. Please let me know if you'd like a ride! Heidi Babb 603-340-2281 (call or text)
Canterbury Fair Planning from YRE
The YRE Committee is organizing the kid's tent at the Canterbury Fair. Do you have a popup tent we can use July 29-30? (the meeting only has one and two are needed). We will be making sock puppets. Do you have any unmatched socks? (How DOES that happen?) Please search for those pesky socks in your drawer, and bring them (clean) and in a marked bag to the Meetinghouse by July 24 at latest (or earlier so we don't worry we have enough). We hope to 'up cycle' them into about 40 puppets! And please sign up to be a helper in the kids' tent (see the next article) and you can take home your very own sock puppet! Examples and instructions will be provided - If I can do it, you can do it!

Canterbury Fair Planning from Outreach, July 30
Canterbury Fair July 30th
The Outreach committee is coordinating a CFM presence at the fair, including a children's activity table next to an adult relaxation area offering a cup of water, shade, and socialization. We need some volunteers for this endeavor, with information about what window of time you could attend. There will be at least two from our meeting in attendance throughout the event. Susan L is in charge of documenting volunteer scheduling, but any of us will be happy to chat about it and sign people up! Emailing OutreachCommittee [at] concordfriendsmeeting [dot] org is one contact option.
Wednesday Walkers
Faith Sillars and Kathy Urie are inviting you again for a walk on Wednesday, July 13th at 9:30 am.
The trail we chose is (Marjorie) Swope Loop (blue) trail, west of Concord. The trail head is on Long Pond Road, near Penacook Lake. The trail is a loop but we will also hike up to the top of Jerry Hill, some 200 ft elevation. Reviews of this walk say it is easy with a few rocks in the path. Some suggested the use of walking sticks. Kathy will bring hers and extras. As always wear comfortable shoes for walking, bring water bottles, sprays, snacks, etc. An hour and 15 minutes should do it.
Directions from Concord:
Start on rt 3 (North State Street), in what is referred to as West Concord area. Turn onto Hutchins Street off rt 3. You will then be heading west. (A West Congregational Church is on the corner.) Hutchins Street becomes Lake View Drive. Watch for and make a right on to Long Pond Road. Before you know it, you will see the trailhead on your right.
Please let Faith know by email you will be doing this walk. Kathy will be away this week.
YRE- Summer Activities with Children on Sundays
We are hoping that Summer will bring some children to our Meeting and are preparing for their arrival. We will offer supervised play for any children that come and will need YRE Helpers for that purpose. This will happen inside or outside as the children and weather dictate. In the Fall we will also need helpers for the teachers when First Day School begins again. If you would like to help with this wonderful work, please reach out to Elaine Bello, 617-359-8699, and she will help you complete the vetting process so that your name can be added to the schedule.
Summer Weeds
Please take some time to pull a few weeds from the garden area between the two walkways as you pass by. The creeping thyme, just coming into bloom, and the yellow (and brown) sedum are both very hearty plants that can be walked on. There are also stepping stones among the plantings. The weeds are so easy to pull when they are small!

The following items have appeared previously in the Newsletter.
Towels
Kathi Connors writes that the Resource Center of Concord Coalition to End Homelessness offers unhoused persons the use of their showers. They try to provide a clean towel and washcloth to each person, to be placed in a basket after use to be laundered. They are in dire need of these items right now to the point that several persons went without towels during last Fridays drop-in hours. I am collecting towels and washcloths to donate to them, and am willing to pick them up from donors. Please, no bath sheets or hand towels. Contact me by email, please, if you have a donation. If you don't have Kathi's email you can reply to WebClerk [at] concordfriendsmeeting [dot] org.

Asylum Seekers' Support Fund
So far $2,160 has been contributed toward the goal of $4,000. For more information see the flyer here. It can be easily downloaded and sent on to others. You may be interested to know that most of the contributions have come from outside Concord Meeting. Please consider helping us reach our goal.
