Minutes of Meeting for Worship for Business
Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting
Religious Society of Friends
5th Month 6, 2012
Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting gathered in Meeting for Worship for Business. Members and attenders present were: 11
The meeting began with a period of silent worship.
5.1 Fourth Month Minutes: The meeting reviewed and approved the Minutes from the Fourth Month Business Meeting.
5.2 Announcements:
The Budget Committee will present next year’s budget at the next Meeting for Business.
The Youth Religious Education Committee would like to invite the meeting to the annual spring party on June 3; this will be held at the home of David Woolpert and Penny Petkiewicz.
5.3 Nominating Committee Report (attached)
The Clerks expressed some concern about the vacancy in the position of Assistant Clerk; traditionally within our meeting this role has been filled by one who intends to serve as Clerk when the current clerk steps down.
The position of Treasurer will be redefined to now include two individuals: a Treasure and a Bookkeeper.
Five individuals have agreed to serve on a new committee for Peace, Social and Earth Care Concerns.
The Hospitality Committee was the most difficult to fill; Nominating Committee felt that this was because the Committee’s charge is somewhat undefined. Greg Heath will convene this committee and help the meeting work toward greater clarity of purpose for this committee.
The Landscape Committee was laid down; Nominating Committee decided that this group will reconvene as necessary as a working group.
The Youth Religious Education Committee requested an additional member; that position is yet to be filled.
The Meeting was reminded that there is a spot for an additional representative to NEYM M&C should someone from the meeting feel called to that role.
The new Nominating Committee will work to fill existing vacancies.
The Meeting approved the report of the Nominating Committee with gratitude for the hard work of its members.
5.4 NH State Hospital Workshop: The meeting considered the request of Greg Heath, Jay Smith and Marcia Humphrey to represent our meeting at a workshop for clergy at the NH State Hospital.
Friends supported Greg Heath and Jay Smith to attend this workshop.
Friends carefully considered the difference between supporting Marcia Humphrey’s attendance of this event and endorsing her as a representative of our meeting in light of the fact that she is not a member of the meeting and has not been able to attend regularly. Friends spoke eloquently of the power of Friends’ practice to raise up any individuals within our community who are called to ministry, in any form, as a way to both serve our meeting and bear witness to our testimonies beyond our meeting.
We are grateful for the willingness of these Friends to serve as a resource to our meeting as we support individuals with mental health concerns and their families and we endorse their attendance of this workshop.
A recommendation was made that a support committee might be offered to these Friends to support this important ministry. This will be considered to M&C.
5.5 Announcements:
- Green Fire will be coming to the Red River Theatre in the third weekend of June.
- Friends are reminded that the Equalization Committee of NEYM provides funding for individuals to attend NEYM sessions. Friends are asked to consider contributing to this fund if possible.
The meeting ended with a period of silent worship.
Minutes accepted when signed,
Ruth Heath, Co-Clerk
Alisa Barnard, Recording Clerk
