Minutes of Meeting for Worship for Business
Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends
10th Month 12, 2008
Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting gathered in its Meeting for Worship for Business at the Merrimack Valley Day Care Center in Concord, NH. Friends present were David Freeman-Woolpert, Greg Heath (substitute recording clerk), Ruth Heath (treasurer) Sara Smith(clerk), Jay Smith.
The meeting was opened by the clerk with a period of worshipful silence.
10.1 Minutes of 9th Month 28, 2008. We corrected and approved the minutes of 9th Month 28, 2008. The system of numeration was corrected and the last sentence of minute 9.12 was changed to read “We approved the creation of the trust.”
10.2 Minutes of 7th Month 2008. Recording Clerk, Rich Kleinschmidt, reported to the Clerk that the minutes from 7th Month are lost. Clerk Sara Smith has found her notes listing the proposed agenda for the 7th Month meeting. She will circulate that list in order to seek input as to who was present and what decisions were made.
10.3 Treasurer's Report. Treasurer Ruth Heath reported that we are in need of more contributions. A formal financial report was not available.
10.4 Hearing Devices. Greg Heath reported that the hearing device Susan Chambers uses is not helpful for Don Booth. Friends agreed that the best course of action is to find a system that can be used now and also used in our new Meeting House. Ruth Heath recalled that Mark Barker, who was not present, may have indicated an interest in researching how to repair or replace our damaged sound transmitter and listening system. Ruth Heath has contact information for the sound consultant who recommended the existing system. Sara Smith will ask Mark if he can take on this project.
10.5 Housing Committee Report. Since our last meeting the Committee has spoken with the Timber Framers Guild. Their engineer has approved the final recommended design for the worship space. The joining of the two structures, a problematic issue, has been turned over to the architect for the development of final plans. The SIPs designer needs these final plans before they can move ahead. The Committee plans to have a meeting with the builders and architect in the near future.
10.6 Agreements with AMTP. Clerk Sara Smith reported a conversation with Holly Manoogian, board member of the AMTP, who indicated the AMTP attorney and board are uncomfortable with the concept of the Trust we have created. To continue under this arrangement of ownership will delay the AMTP’s ability to transfer land until such time as their concerns are allayed. Since we have approved incorporating as a New Hampshire nonprofit corporation (9th Month 14, 2008 meeting), Friends agreed to move ahead to accomplish the incorporation. Nominating Committee is asked to present a slate of incorporators at our next meeting. We understand Monadnock Meeting is incorporated. Ruth Heath or David Freeman-Woolpert will obtain a copy of their By-Laws. Friends agreed to hold a specially-called meeting on 10th Month 26, 2008 after the rise of Meeting for Worship. The agenda will be to act on the Nominating Report and the possible consideration to revoke the trust approved in 9th Month.
10.7 Gathering of All New Hampshire Friends. Sara Smith reported on the Dover Quarterly Meeting committee working on plans for the Gathering. The Rev. Eugene Robinson has agreed to be a resource person and has offered meeting space. We are hoping Martha Yager will also be a resource person. The date will be February 7, 2009. The topic will be Spirituality and Sexual Ethics. We will explore the deepest meanings of family, marriage and committed relationships and what it means to have all of these under the care of the meeting. Sara reminded us that Concord Meeting is the “host” meeting and logistical support will be needed. Greg Heath agreed to handle registration.
Respectfully submitted
