Minutes of Meeting for Worship for Business
Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting
Religious Society of Friends
1st Month 8, 2006
(As approved 3/12/06)
Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting gathered in a regularly called Meeting for Worship for Business, on the date above stated, at the Merrimack Valley Day Care Center, Concord, NH. Friends present were Lois Booth, Susan Chambers, Lynn Chong, Graham P. Chynoweth, David Freeman-Woolpert, Ruth Heath, Rich Kleinschmidt (recording clerk pro tem), Zane Knoy, Sara Smith (clerk), Kathy Urie
The meeting was opened by the clerk with a period of worshipful silence.
1.1 Jobs Coordinator. Dennis Holt is no longer available to serve the Meeting as Jobs Coordinator. Rich Kleinschmidt agreed to print new job sign-up sheets.
1.2 State of Society. The committee on ministry and counsel will lead us in a 4th Sunday discussion on what insights should be included in the Meeting’s State of Society report. Topics suggested include:
- What feeds us spiritually?
- What witnesses and actions are calling us?
- What challenges and changes are facing our meeting?
- What vision do we have for the future?
1.3 Community Involvement. Sara Smith has had discussions with Lutheran Social Services about how the meeting might be of service to immigrant families being resettled in the area. Ruth Heath suggested that the First Day School classes might be interested. There were some concerns about taking on a social action project. The concerns included:
- Whether Meeting should serve as a group of spiritual seekers or whether we should be a service organization.
- Whether we too many of us are overcommitted with too little time to take on another commitment.
We did not resolve these questions. Sara and Ruth will report back after further discussions with Lutheran Social Services.
The meeting ended with a period of worshipful silence, purposing to meet again on the second First Day of Second Month or at the call of the clerk.
Respectfully Submitted,
/s/ Richard Kleinschmidt, Recording Clerk pro tem
Accepted as the Approved Record,
