Minutes of Meeting for Worship for Business
Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting
Religious Society of Friends
12th Month 11, 2005
(As approved 3/12/06)
Concord (NH) Monthly Meeting gathered in a regularly called Meeting for Worship for Business, on the date above stated, at the Merrimack Valley Day Care Center, Concord, NH. Friends present were David Freeman-Woolpert, Deane Kellison, Rich Kleinschmidt (recording pro tem), Jay Smith, Sara Smith (clerk), Kathy Urie
The meeting was opened by the clerk with a period of worshipful silence.
12.1 Workshop Proposal: Sara Smith attended a workshop jointly sponsored by the Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center and the New Hampshire Council of Churches. The sponsors of the workshop are eager to present programs on depression to local churches. The matter was referred to the committee on Ministry and Council.
12.2 Future 4th Sunday programs are planned as follows:
- January – State of Society discussion led by Ministry and Council
- February – Program sponsored by Peace and Social Concerns Committee
- March – Program sponsored by Youth Religious Ed Committee
- April – Presentation by Brian Drayton
- May – Program sponsored by Peace and Social Concerns Committee
- June – Spring Party.
12.3 Housing Committee: David Freeman-Woolpert reported that the housing committee continues its search for alternative meeting spaces. They pursued the possibility of renting a function hall but found nothing appropriate available. They approached the Concord Community Music School, but found their space fully committed. Current leads include the possibility of the bungalow down the street from our current meeting space, the possibility of reaching an agreement with the day care center that would allow us to renovate our current space and the possibility of building on the Booth land in Canterbury (near the Penacook border).
We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of living in Concord. The advantages include being centrally located, being visible, being close to the location of state government, being in the community where our names says we are. The disadvantages include high property values\ and demanding requirements for parking (35 spaces) and sewer hookups.
The committee invites suggestions including:
- Additional rental options.
- Suggestions of properties that might be donated or within our means.
- Ideas about how our current space could be renovated.
Respectfully Submitted,
/s/ Richard Kleinschmidt, Recording Clerk pro tem
Accepted as the Approved Record,
