  • Thursday the 7th & Wed the 20th around 9 a.m.
  • Wednesday the 13th (afternoon ... 1:30 without Rowan & Elanor, after 3:30 if you’d like to visit with them too)

Lois Booth Memorial:

  In preparation for the memorial service for Lois at the UU Church on Saturday, November 9th at 2:00 p.m., Friends may enjoy visiting https://loisbooth.wordpress.com/.  This site offers a wonderful look back into Lois' life.  A reception at the church follows the service.  A word of encouragement to new friends who did not know Lois in her active years:  Please attend this memorial.  You will not regret it and you will gain valuable insights into the importance of this lovely exemplar and mentor to many.

Mass Incarceration, Nov 16, 1:30 p.m.:

  Learn more about mass incarceration and its increasing use to handle societal problems.  Why incarcerate?  Is it effective in reducing crime?  Is it the best choice?  Are we safer?

Richard Van Wickler,  Superintendent of the Cheshire County House of Corrections, an engaging and highly recommended speaker, will discuss this and answer your questions.  He is a 26-year veteran of the US Army, and lectures on Justice Studies topics at Keene State University and the Community College System of NH.  He was appointed in 2003, at a time that the Cheshire Count Jail faced significant litigation in Federal Court and revitalized the agency.

Property Committee Seeks worker bee(s):

  The Property Committee has a special concern for three spaces at Meeting that folks don't tend to think about very often. They are the mechanical room, the small attic, and the garden shed.  These space need individuals to take a special interest in them, cleaning and organizing from time to time.  Would you like to adopt one of these spaces as a way to contribute to the Meeting in a valuable way?  If so....please speak to one of the committee members who are Chris, Greg, JJ, Michael and Lucy.

Meetinghouse Clean Up – Nov 17.

  As is our tradition, we will take a few minutes for fellowship after meeting and then convene for a half hour to 45 min. of work on needed projects. We are hoping for a pleasant day.  If we get reasonable weather we will work outdoors with leaf cleanup, window washing, and washing siding in the back especially.  If the weather is poor we'll clean indoors and set aside some weekdays to get the necessary outdoor work accomplished.

In planning for this work, please contact Greg by replying to this message if you have an interest in working on either of these specialized tasks: 1) power washing the siding or 2) digging up the apple tree roots and cutting them (within reason) and taking the tree down, dragging brush.  It's a two or three person job.

Closet Congestion:

  Have you noticed that the closet in the foyer has accumulated many jackets and sweaters? Now that cold weather is on us, the space is needed.  Please take your articles home.  Alternatively they may wind up in the lost and found box in the Mechanical Room.
