CA-ARES Operations Plan – Attachment G

ATTACHMENT G – Emergency Net Script

The net control operator (NCS) must be familiar with emergency operations and understand the Emergency Coordinator’s expectations to establish and follow clear net protocols.  The call W1CPL [1] should be used.  The NCS will log all radio transmissions.

BEGINNING:

“This is W1CPL.  I will be <NET CONTROL> (or tactical call sign) for the Capital Area ARES Emergency Communications Net.  We are providing emergency communications at this time. This is a directed net.  Please listen to net control.  Do not transmit unless directed to do so except if you have emergency traffic.”

FIRST ROLL CALL

(The net control operator will need to know who is assisting. Net Control may need to make duty assignments and tactical call signs.)

“This is <NET CONTROL> (or tactical call sign).  All amateur stations working this emergency, please state your call sign phonetically, followed by your name, current location, and say the word traffic if you have traffic and its priority.”

(Confirm each check-in and keep a log of all transmissions.  Continue until you are reasonably certain that all amateur stations working this emergency have checked in.)

EVENT BUSINESS:

(Provide the requested communications support. Keep radio logs of the event).

SUCCESSIVE ROLL CALLS: Periodically make the following announcement:

“This is W1CPL.  I will be <NET CONTROL> (or tactical call sign) for the Capital Area ARES Emergency Communications Net.  We are providing emergency communications at this time.  This is a directed net.  Please listen to net control.  Do not transmit unless directed to do so except if you have emergency traffic.  I will be conducting a roll call of all amateur stations working this emergency.  Please respond with your Tactical call, Call Sign, and Welfare.”

(Perform roll call then continue with communications support)

CLOSING

“I would like to thank all stations that participated in this Emergency net.  I wish to thank <K1XXX> for the use of the repeater (if a repeater was used).  This is W1CPL, net control, terminating the EMERGENCY Net and returning the repeater (or simplex frequency) to regular Amateur use.”
